Unsaid, Unseen, and Underneath

If you should happen, in the dark,
To come upon that fragile spark
That lights in the secret heart of man,
Try to fight it, if you can.

Kiss your family, hold their hands,
Tell them things they won’t understand.
Then lie silent, with the one in your bed
And rely on the night and things unsaid.

If you start to dream of wicked things,
Beware of tugging at your strings.
He may direct what you’re thinking of,
Who you want, and who you love.

Watch the ones that you hold dear,
You have the same thing you should fear.
Watch all things, seen and unseen,
Shadows, and strings, and the in-between.

If you trust too many souls,
Your life is a dam filled with holes,
The secrets will come rushing through,
And there’ll be nothing left between Him and You.

Make your bed and try to sleep,
Try to rest and not to keep
Thinking about the dark and what’s underneath
All the whispers and all the teeth.

Keep the curtains drawn at night,
And all day- draw them tight,
Shut every window, lock all the doors,
And put heavy rugs on all your floors.

Wrap the windows round with wires,
Beware all ye with strange desires,
For they’re coming, yes, for all of you,
All you secrets and your lover’s, too.

Beware the shades of the nowhere lands,
And the one who has nowhere to stand,
For he always runs, he’s running here-

Beware the Master Puppeteer.
