I enjoy the romantic nature of so much of your writing. It reminds me of the literature of the 1800's--lots of ghosts and dying loves. The word shimmery makes this limerick work for me. It adds just the right amount of description.
I think you've been reading entirely too much Edward Gorey. And what was Laurence boasting about anyway?

Laurence was the son of a nobleman. He was boasting of the beautiful lady he would mary. Richer men do, after all.
